  • Rock Castle, 139 Rock Castle Lane, 615-824-0502, W-Sa 10AM-4PM, Su 1PM-4PM. One of the first stone buildings in Tennessee, a 7-story limestone mansion built by the Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Smith. Costumed guides conduct fairly inexpensive tours detailing the history of Daniel Smith and his descendants, as well as the inner workings of the mansion and period-era living conditions. Also available for conferences and luncheons.

[edit] Do

Due to its status as the City by The Lake, most recreational activities in Hendersonville are focused on boating, swimming and fishing throughout the lakes and rivers which weave around most of the town. However, a number of excellent golf courses are located within or nearby the city, and there are several opportunities to participate in other local sports as well.

[edit] Eat

  • Center Point Barbecue, 1212 W Main St., 615-824-9330. The best BBQ in Hendersonville and, indeed, most of the Nashville area. Serves large chicken and pork sandwiches, platters, and fantastic ribs. The pecan pie is to die for. The restaurant itself is clean and full of interesting 60's memorabilia lining the walls. Mandatory for any stay in Hendersonville.
  • El Puente, 110 Imperial Blvd., 615-264-1919. A small, but charming Mexican restaurant located close to Main Street. A good budget eatery, the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. Fairly tasty food served in large portions, with a substantial menu to choose from. Formerly served great margaritas, but due to pressures from a nearby church this practice has been discontinued.
  • September's Cafe, 71 New Shackle Island Rd., 615-826-8999. A small, laid-back diner which offers healthy organic foods and some of the best breakfast in town. You can't go wrong as everything tastes amazing. Excellent service. The restaurant has a quaint, small-town atmosphere and the walls are covered with beautiful paintings (some of which are for sale!) by local artists and college students. A great, inexpensive place to eat.
  • Steamboat Bill's, 248 Sanders Ferry Rd., 615-264-8103. This lakeside restaurant is a newer establishment serving Cajun cuisine in an authentic New Orleans atmosphere. Known for being one of the best places to eat in Hendersonville, it serves a wide selection of wonderful Cajun dishes, and a number of ingredients are imported directly from New Orleans. In addition, the staff are top-notch and will do everything to make your dining experience a pleasant one. Prices are a bit expensive, but you most certainly get what you pay for. Highly recommended.

[edit] Drink

  • Sputnik's Inc., 125 Sanders Ferry Rd., 615-822-7500. Standard local bar on the lakefront, decent selection of drinks and regular live performances by local country/indie bands. Has recently undergone major rennovations and is now a more classy establishment. One of the only bars in Hendersonville proper so attracts a diverse crowd.

[edit] Sleep

  • Holiday Inn Express, 615 E Main St., 615-824-0022. An excellent hotel located on the eastern outskirts of Hendersonville, near developing commercial districts. Delicious continental breakfast, friendly service and clean, comfortable rooms. Contains a fitness center, swimming pool and meeting facilities. Also wheelchair accessible and with free internet access. Wifi hotspot.
