Saltwater Crocodiles (crocodylus porosus) are very common in all parts of the Cape York penninsula and swimming is not advised anywhere (including the ocean) except in private or hotel pools. The Crocodile population in the Cape York penninsula is very high and only rivaled by the Northern Territory to the west. As with all of Australia, venomous snakes are present (Death Adder, King Brown, Taipan), they are however rarely encountered and usually shy away from conflict.

In summer months (Dec-May) don't swim in the ocean without a stinger suit. The box jelly fish is next to the Sydney funnel web spider the most toxic animal on the planet and will kill you if not carefull. They especially swim in shallow water near beaches
