Hello friends,
My nationality is Indian. I am awarded with an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship by European commission for my Masters study; currently I am in Germany and would be travelling to Italy next year for the second year of my Masters study. I hold a Bachelor of Technology degree(B.Tech, year 2006) with course of Interest as Information Technology and nearly 2 years of experience in Web development field(in India). I also have an IELTS score of 7.5 Bands, not older than 2 months. I wanted to apply now for Canada Immigration under skilled workers and professionals as it takes much time for processing(years of time as I have heard). Shall I apply now itself or shall I wait for completion of my Masters to get more points? If I shall apply after Masters, then I would need to wait for more years for my turn, and if I am applying now, hopefully by the time I finish my Masters, maybe my turn would come(*optimistic*). Moreover, please do share your views and experiences about Canada Immigration under Skilled workers and professionals. PS: I have relatives who are permanent resident of Canada. Thank you all for your replies. Thanks Cat. And Susan, yes I already got the required points. Thank you! @Sidwell I am sorry for my poor knowledge about these things. I think I shall send my application to Canadian High Commission, New Delhi. Shall I give my current Germany address in the application or the Indian one? I know I won't here for long enough but can I make updates to the Contact details(phone & address) given in my application with respect to the new countries I would be going to(if needed)? About Dual nationality, I think there's something called OCI. Anyhow that's okay with me if I shall get what I am trying for. |

If you take a look at the government website under the skilled workers section there is a test so you can see if you'd currently have enough points to apply now ....
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp You also need to prove that you're proficient in either English and French, you get more points for actual work experience and if you have a job offer already also you need to prove that you have sufficient funds. So my advice would be to take the test first and then see if you need more points or if you would qualify now. |

I think you would already qualify as a skilled worker on the basis of the description you provided so why not? You can apply now too because I think you will still have to wait to emigrate to Canada even after finishing your 2-years Master's. If I were you, I would apply ASAP.
To the other answerer: the guy has already taken IELTS which is the English language test required for Canadian immigration. |

Your basic degree is enough to get your points, so its better to apply now. Just bear in mind that immigration from india is currently taking 6 years - so yes I think you should apply now.
You will not be able to add the masters to your application to increase your points once you submit an application, but you have enough for now, so I would strongly suggest you do apply now. Also be aware that India does not allow dual citizenship |

Canada is currently changing the skilled worker applications and they are already processing new applications under new rules since last February. Proposed changes involve 38 professions needed in Canada as well as promised less than 12 month processing time. They still haven't published the new list of professions though but are supposed to do it in November. If I were you, I would wait until they publish the new rules to see if you still qualify. You can still look for jobs and come in on a temporary work permit. It is easy to apply for PR later if you are skilled.
