It is a very simple thing to answer. It does not have anything to do with what is thought about in modern day at this point. What matters to answer your question is what was Macedonia in Alexander's time? It was Macedonia and it's army conqured all of the city states of Greece. Forming the Greeek country for the first time. So Greece became part of the Macedonian Empire that Alexander was the King of. Any time you try to establish the truth to these kinds of questions you are going to find many sources that contradicct each other. Furthermore Macedonia like any other county in the world has a culture and national identity. Who they conqured when is less important. It is not uncommon that city states and or countries that had been conqured to declare independce again after the ruling power/class changes. So is it a part of Greece? Next time you go to greece and then Macedonia see if a passport is required. If you get a stamp in it then your in another counrty. You do good research but the answer is a matter of when the question is asked. Who knows what the answer will be in a 100 years when we have been pass by history.
