Default First Time Overseas Traveller Needs Airfare Advice?

Im an Australian. I intend on travelingto the United States for 3 months and then to Japan for a month, then back to Australia.

In total tthat's3 flights. Could I get a return ticket except with Japan as my return destination?

Would it be best to simply pay for 3 individual airfares?

If so, if I chose to fly with United for all 3 flight would I get a discount? Do United fly Japan to Australia?

Thank you, your help is appreciated

Hi, its best to get all the flights together. If you want to go back to Australia then i don't think you can get Japan as a return, however if you want to stay in Japan or have some other way of getting out of there back to Australia then you can. It would be best to ask the travel agent you would let them know you plan to go Australia - US - US - Japan - Then Australia? Also make sure you check out the visa requirements and stuff for the US, they have changed the system there and you need to log into a website for approval before you can fly there (ask your agent about this also). As for united airlines not sure if they go to Japan or OZ, you would have to check that out and no you probably won't get a discount, its cheaper to get the travel agent to sort that out and find which airlines are the cheapest to each destination. Good luck

Check out some of the round the world ticket deals. You may find you can even get another country or 2 for less than the cost of the 3 flights.

Last week my local Flight Centre had a sign for round the world fares from something like $2,300.

Google them for more information or google round the world fares for more information.

While we are in the advice giving business, are you rich? Japan is a very expensive place to stay? You will get much more value for money if you choose to go and visit Thailand, Philippines or Indonesia for a few months. In fact, in the Philippines, it costs me about usd $2,000 per month to live life in holiday mode and a lot less to just live normally.

You can't make Japan your return destination as you will not be starting your journey there. Also when visiting Japan you have to have a valid ticket leaving the country, immigration won't let you in otherwise. How are you planning to get back to Australia anyway?
Don't bother about using just one airline, you don't get a discount and it may be more convienient and cheaper using other airlines.
