Default Cruise Recommendations?

For a while now we have been debating on taking our first cruise. Being as we have not been on a cruise, do you have any recommendations on which cruise liners are the best and what cruise we should take?

I think this depends where you're from, your budget, and what type of cruise you want to take. If you live on the West Coast and want a quiet and scenic getaway cruise, I'd try the Royal Caribbean Cruises to Alaska. If you live on the East Coast and want a more active, fun filled vacation, try the Carnival Cruises to the Caribbean. And if you don't mind the really long flight and extra expense, maybe try a cruise in Australia and New Zealand by Norwegian Cruise Lines.

The best cruise line is The Cambodian Express. It has one of the best food and entertainment package available. It is very graceful on the water.

I have been on LOTS of cruises in the Caribbean. Many of my friends ask me the same question, "which cruise line should I go on?" My answer is always the same... who are you going with? If you are going with your fraternity brothers, go on Carnival. You'll love the party atmosphere. If you are going with your spouse and kids, go on Royal Caribbean. There are lots of activities for the kids (some say too much) and lot of stuff for the adults too. If you want to go with only your spouse and want to be pampered, go on Celebrity. You will have white gloved porters waiting for you at check in to carry your bags to your room.

It really comes down to what kind of atmosphere you want. Most of these lines all go to the same or similar ports.

It seems like you are a cruise expert. Have you ever used The Cambodian Express? I love it.

Hi Gallery.

No I have not taken that one. However my wife did the Yangtze river cruise and absolutely loved it! She claims that it was quite the experience.

I will probably go on a couple more RCCL cruises this year, but next year I would like to charter a small sailboat with a few friends and do some of the smaller Caribbean islands that the larger cruise ships cannot visit.

If this is your first cruise, go for a short one say about a week. Remember that once you are on a ship, it is difficult to jump ship Take it slow and see if you like the seas. To take a hedge, go for interesting itineraries with good shore excursions - this way if you hate the ship, you still have the land excursions to look forward too.

Start slow as cruising is an acquired taste but a substantial proportion of people hates it. Good luck.
