I don't know why Americans think Europeans are so tolerant. I think they are more indifferent. Only four countries in Europe allow gay marriage and several, including France not only ban gay marriage but ban gay adoptions! In italy, nudity is illegal. Much of Europe is still controlled by the Pope. Try getting condoms in Ireland! Only legalized there in 1996 yet still most shopkeepers wont' sell them.
